Why vegan skin care is on the rise

Updated: Oct 27, 2019

Vegan skin care is here to stay

More and more skincare users are hopping on the vegan trend, studies show.

According to a 2018 report by Grand View Research, the global market for vegan cosmetics and skin care products is expected to reach $20.8 billion by 2025.

The Beauty Business Journal (BBJ) says the growing demand for these products stems from mass interest in ethical consumerism.

“(Young consumers’) choices reflect their concerns over animal cruelty, carbon emissions and the strain on the planet’s depleting natural resources,” BBJ writer Richard McKeon explained in the March, 2019 story.

“The majority of other consumers are increasingly taking into consideration animal rights and the safety of ingredients before making a purchase.”

But what exactly does it mean for a cosmetic product to be “vegan”? While animal testing remains a pervasive issue within the beauty industry, vegan products are made without causing any harm to animals. And this means more than just foregoing animal testing: it also means products are made without any ingredients sourced from animals, including beeswax, lanolin (grease from sheep’s wool), collagen (from cows’ tissue), and collagen .

For many, shopping vegan (in the grocery store, pharmacy, and beyond) is a no-brainer, an easy way to reduce harm to the planet and all its animals. But according to Vogue Australia, the benefits don’t stop there — vegan cosmetics are also better for your skin. While animal products tend to cause harsh reactions and can easily clog the pores, vegan alternatives do not.

And while countless brands are now picking up on this demand, Bartholomew Sisters has been experimenting with natural vegan skincare recipes for eight years.

Borne out of a desire to find cosmetics without the usual harsh chemicals, we’ve cultivated an array of natural products for every customer. Our countless body butters, toners, soaps, and more, make shopping vegan easy (and affordable). Hop on the trend now.
